Nijmegen is a small city in the east of the Netherlands, near the German border. It has beautiful surroundings: good for walking and cycling.

De Nijmeegse Vierdaagse or Four Day Marches

The most important festivity that's held in Nijmegen each year is the Nijmeegse Vierdaagse (The Four Day Marches). It is a walking event that lasts four days and ends with a fest. It starts always on the 3d Tuesday of July and it ends on a Friday. The walks (every day another one) lead through the beautiful surroundings of the city. During this time Nijmegen shows itself from its best side. There are many festivities held during the day and in the evening. Many foreigners participate.
